General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has been awarded a supply contract for the Danish Army’s new 4×4 Armored Patrol Vehicle program (APV). After a competitive EU tendering process, including an intensive comparative vehicle trial between the EAGLE 5 and the Ocelot both made by General Dynamics, the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistic Organization (DALO) has selected GDELS-Mowag’s EAGLE 5 4×4 vehicle platform.
“We are very proud to have received this contract after an intensive international competition. The Eagle’s selection underlines the confidence and satisfaction of our Danish customer with our products and proves the “first-in-class” position of our EAGLE 4×4 in the segment of light and highly protected vehicles.” said Thomas Lattmann, Director International Business & Services, GDELS.
The initial batch consists of 36 vehicles in the Patrol configuration with first deliveries in 2018. The contract has options for further variants including Electronic Warfare, Support and Reconnaissance. The vehicles will complement the Danish Army’s existing EAGLE 4 vehicle fleet, which is scheduled to be replaced within the next couple of years.
DALO has previously confirmed to the Danish Defence media Krigeren.dk, that Danish Defence is also evaluating the US Oshkosh Defence made JLTV vehicle scheduled to be produced in more that 55.000 for the various branches of US Defence. Recently it was confirmed that the UK Army intends to acquire more than 2.700 JLTV vehicles which will spearhead the introduction of the JLTV vehicle into the European market.
With the selection of the EAGLE 5 Denmark joints an exclusive club of EAGLE 5 user nations. So far the German Bundeswehr is the sole user of the EAGLE 5 4×4 with 176 vehicles on record.
